How much does flooring installation cost in Los Angeles?
It depends far more on the subfloor and the material than on square footage alone. A flat, sound subfloor with mid-range luxury vinyl is at the affordable end. The same room needing levelling compound and a quality engineered hardwood can be several times that. We measure and itemise so you can see exactly where the money goes.
Can you install over my existing floor?
Sometimes. Luxury vinyl and engineered wood can go over sound, flat, dry vinyl or tile. Never over carpet. Never over tile that is cracked or sounds hollow — that movement telegraphs straight through the new floor.
What flooring works best over a concrete slab?
Engineered wood or luxury vinyl plank. Solid hardwood is not recommended directly over slab because of moisture movement. A lot of LA homes are slab-on-grade, so this comes up constantly.
How long does the installation take?
A single room is typically one to three days. Main living areas run three to six, including prep and trim. Wood products need acclimatisation time in the house before that clock starts.
Do I need to move out?
No. We work room by room so the rest of the house stays usable. You will want to plan around the kitchen if that is part of the scope.
Do you move the furniture?
Yes, that is included. Very heavy or fragile items — a piano, a full aquarium — are worth flagging when you call so we can plan for them.
What about the gap at the walls?
Wood and laminate floors need an expansion gap so the floor can move seasonally. It is covered by base or shoe trim. A floor fitted tight to the wall will buckle, so if a quote does not mention expansion gaps, ask why.
Do you install flooring in bathrooms and kitchens?
Yes — luxury vinyl or tile in those rooms. We would not put solid hardwood in a bathroom, and would talk you out of it if you asked.
