Flooring
installation
in Los Angeles.

Hardwood, engineered, luxury vinyl, tile, and laminate — measured, prepped, and laid by a team that treats the subfloor as part of the job rather than an afterthought.

Most flooring complaints are not about the flooring. They are about what was underneath it. A plank floor laid over a slab that is out by half an inch will develop hollow spots and separations within a year, and no amount of quality in the material fixes it. So the first thing we do on a flooring job is find out what we are laying onto.

That means checking the subfloor for flatness and moisture, looking at what the existing floor is hiding, and being straight with you about whether the budget needs to shift toward prep. Occasionally that conversation costs us the job. It is still the right conversation.

Once the substrate is sorted, the install itself is the straightforward part — and it is the part where our team is quick, tidy, and finishes with transitions and trim that actually look considered.

What a flooring job includes

  • Moisture and flatness testing before anything is ordered
  • Tear-out and disposal of the existing floor
  • Subfloor repair, levelling compound, or underlayment as required
  • Acclimatisation time for wood products before install
  • Installation with correct expansion gaps and layout planning
  • Transitions, thresholds, and shoe or base trim
  • Full clean-down and debris haul-away

Options and materials

Which floor is right for the room

Solid hardwood

Real timber that can be refinished repeatedly. Best over a wood subfloor on raised foundations. Not the right call over a concrete slab or in a bathroom.

Living rooms, bedrooms, hallways

Engineered wood

A hardwood wear layer over a stable plywood core. Handles LA humidity swings better than solid and can go over slab, which is why it suits a lot of the housing stock here.

Slab-on-grade homes

Luxury vinyl plank

Fully waterproof, quiet, warm underfoot, and the most forgiving of a subfloor that is not perfectly flat. The default for kitchens, laundries, and rentals.

Kitchens, baths, rentals

Tile

Porcelain or ceramic where water and wear are constant. Needs correct substrate and movement joints — most cracked tile we get called to replace failed because of prep, not the tile.

Bathrooms, entries, laundry

Transitions are where you can tell.

Anyone can lay a plank in the middle of a room. The doorways, the stair nosings, and the join between two materials are where a floor either looks finished or looks fitted in a hurry.

Step by step

How a flooring install runs

01

Measure and test

We measure the space properly and test the subfloor for moisture and flatness. Both change what is possible and what it costs.

02

Material selection

We show you options at two or three price points with the trade-offs written down, rather than steering you at one product.

03

Prep and acclimatise

Tear-out, subfloor correction, then wood products sit in the house before install so they move before they are fixed down, not after.

04

Install and finish

Layout planned so cuts land sensibly, then transitions and trim to close it out.

Budget

What moves the price on a floor

Nobody can quote this accurately without seeing it. These are the factors that move the number, so you know what we are assessing on the walkthrough.

01
Subfloor condition

Levelling compound, plywood replacement, or moisture mitigation are the single biggest swing factor. We flag what we can see up front and note the risk areas in writing.

02
Material choice

The gap between builder-grade LVP and a quality engineered hardwood is far wider than the labour difference between them.

03
Tear-out

Carpet is quick. Glued-down vinyl and old thinset tile are slow, heavy, and drive disposal cost.

04
Layout complexity

Straight runs are fast. Diagonal layouts, patterns, stairs, and lots of small rooms all add cutting time.

05
Trim and transitions

Matching existing base, wrapping stairs, or joining to a floor you are keeping all take finish-carpentry hours.

Questions about
this work.

How much does flooring installation cost in Los Angeles?

It depends far more on the subfloor and the material than on square footage alone. A flat, sound subfloor with mid-range luxury vinyl is at the affordable end. The same room needing levelling compound and a quality engineered hardwood can be several times that. We measure and itemise so you can see exactly where the money goes.

Can you install over my existing floor?

Sometimes. Luxury vinyl and engineered wood can go over sound, flat, dry vinyl or tile. Never over carpet. Never over tile that is cracked or sounds hollow — that movement telegraphs straight through the new floor.

What flooring works best over a concrete slab?

Engineered wood or luxury vinyl plank. Solid hardwood is not recommended directly over slab because of moisture movement. A lot of LA homes are slab-on-grade, so this comes up constantly.

How long does the installation take?

A single room is typically one to three days. Main living areas run three to six, including prep and trim. Wood products need acclimatisation time in the house before that clock starts.

Do I need to move out?

No. We work room by room so the rest of the house stays usable. You will want to plan around the kitchen if that is part of the scope.

Do you move the furniture?

Yes, that is included. Very heavy or fragile items — a piano, a full aquarium — are worth flagging when you call so we can plan for them.

What about the gap at the walls?

Wood and laminate floors need an expansion gap so the floor can move seasonally. It is covered by base or shoe trim. A floor fitted tight to the wall will buckle, so if a quote does not mention expansion gaps, ask why.

Do you install flooring in bathrooms and kitchens?

Yes — luxury vinyl or tile in those rooms. We would not put solid hardwood in a bathroom, and would talk you out of it if you asked.
